CBN is a minor cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, meaning very low levels are naturally produced. However, CBN is considered the most physically sedative of all 110 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, with other very interesting benefits.

A new study published in April of 2024 showed that CBN has neuroprotective qualities by preventing mitochondrial dysfunction in neurons, a common factor in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and traumatic brain injuries. Mitochondria are like an organ for a cell, and this organ produces most of the energy for the brain and body and regulates cell regeneration. CBN taken for sleep can help regenerate these mitochondrial cells and provide more energy the next day.

CBN also shows some responsibility to increasing fibroblast cells and stem cells, which are important for the healing of bone and other types of cells including muscle, fat, and cartilage.

Intrusive, emotional thoughts, or pain, can keep the ACC activated, making it very difficult to fall asleep. This is where serotonin comes into play.

Serotonin has a calming effect on the ACC, breaking the loop of intrusive thoughts, or hyper-attention to pain, and shifting gears for peaceful, happy sleep.

Melatonin is a sleep-inducing hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycles. Responding to light and darkness, melatonin is produced and stored during the day then used at night to initiate sleep and maintain sleep duration.

Sleep issues come in many forms, but melatonin plays a significant role in how well you sleep. Melatonin is produced from serotonin during the day, which is why we’ve added 5- HTP to help that production. If melatonin isn’t depleted at night from too little sleep, interrupted sleep, or if a high dose melatonin supplement is taken too close to bedtime, then we can wake up feeling groggy and moody.

For this reason, we’ve included the minimal effective dose of 3mg melatonin to our Dream Sleep gummies. If taken 30- 45min prior to bedtime, melatonin should still get depleted at night and you can wake up refreshed and ready to start the day.
